Curriculum Overview

Each day begins with morning prayers and the reading of the life of the Saint for that day. Three Hierarchs Academy offers a curriculum that is rich in Orthodox teachings as well as offering an academic program that supports the individual needs of students. Our curriculum includes Math, Science, English, Literature, Music, Art, Modern and New Testament Greek, Orthodox Faith and Life and PE. Our Greek language program will emphasize speaking, reading and writing skills while our lessons in Orthodox faith and life will support students in learning and living their Orthodox faith. The Academy is committed to applying the most effective practices to engage all students. We offer a challenging and relevant curriculum for today’s students. Standards will be taught in a thoughtful progression from grade to grade while using complex texts as each child progresses through the school.

Our Kindergarten program is designed to provide the necessary foundation for the spiritual, academic, and social development of each child. Through interactive discovery and engagement in a wide range of developmental activities, children will build the foundation of a life-long love of learning. The integrated language arts program (including reading, vocabulary, writing, and phonics) builds a strong base to help beginning readers and writers.
Our elementary & primary grade curriculum offers a strong Orthodox foundation and phonics program within the reading and writing curriculum. Students will read the Holy Scriptures, Church hymnography, the Lives of the Saints and other Orthodox literature, as well as other selections from great books that will expand their vocabulary and further their development of writing skills. Our curriculum will also include hands-on lessons in science and math. With a strong historical Orthodox focus, students will learn history through the lens of an Orthodox Christian perspective. Students will be encouraged to develop listening and speaking skills within each course discipline.
The upper grades will concentrate on refining writing and reading skills while incorporating research based strategies. Science and math concepts will continue to be taught and refined while using hand on experiential learning. Our language arts program includes literature, spelling, vocabulary, grammar, and composition. Literary analysis will allow students to think critically as 21st century learners using text evidence based answers. History will be examined through Orthodox events that happened in the world including the Byzantine Era. As an Orthodox Christian school, our goal is to tailor our lessons and meet the needs of each child to deliver focused, relevant, and Christ centered lessons to engage all students. Using rich Orthodox texts, writings of the Holy Fathers, and contemporary literature, students will be analyzing, debating, and synthesizing knowledge to make them competent and confident students upon graduation, ready for college.
